For years now, I’ve wanted to see Wicked The Musical. We almost went up to New York City last year to see it, but limited seat options plus the headache of traveling to NYC put the brakes on that.
So when I heard that Wicked was coming back to Philadelphia, I told my husband that’s what I wanted for Christmas! Mind you, this conversation happened LAST SUMMER. Yes, tickets for the show went on sale a full year in advance, and we finally got to see the play over the weekend. Let me tell you, it was definitely worth the wait!
We took the train into the city and walked a few blocks to the Academy of Music. It was my first time there, and I was amazed at what a beautiful building it was. As you can see from the photo below, we had the best seats in the house – Perks of being married to a former ticket broker. Our seats were in row DDD, the first row in the house!
If you have not heard of Wicked, it’s the untold story of the witches of OZ. Watching The Wizard Of Oz as a kid, I never knew that Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, the Good Witch of the Sorth were friends at one time. So it was interesting to see them go back in time and explain the backstory. True Wizard of Oz fans might notice some discrepancies with respect to the original story, but certain liberties had to be taken to make the story work. While I thought it was really great, I think hubby was getting a little bored after awhile, as I caught him yawning more than a few times..
If you’re in the Philadelphia area, it’s not too late to see Wicked, as they are here until August 4th. It’s a great cast, great music, and a great story. Highly recommended.
Thanks to my hubby for a great Christmas gift! 🙂
