Get In The Holiday Spirit With Ice Cream Cone Cannolis

I was all set to bake a batch of Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies this weekend, but then I stumbled across this recipe for Ice Cream Cone Cannolis, and it was game over!

Photo courtesy of Christine’s Apron Adventures

The recipe comes from Food.com, and Christine’s Apron Adventures added her own step that I decided to follow as well!

15 ounces whole milk ricotta cheese or 15 ounces part-skim ricotta cheese
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon grated orange rind
1/4 cup mini chocolate chip
8 -10 sugar ice cream cones
Multicolored candy sprinkles

  1. With a wooden spoon, mix ricotta, sugar, vanilla, and orange rind until smooth.
  2. Add chips and stir until evenly blended.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for one hour.
  4. Spoon mixture into ice cream cones. Add sprinkes and serve.

Instead of simply adding sprinkles on top like the recipe calls for, I took Christine’s advice and dipped my cones into melted chocolate, and then dipped the cones into the jimmies. It gives everything a more finished look.

Having Some Fun At My Work’s Holiday Gift Swap

The other night, my work held their annual Holiday Gift Swap. Some people might call it a Yankee Swap, White Elephant, or some other variation. But regardless of what you call it, the rules are the same.

Since we typically have a lot of participants, they only allow a gift to be stolen three times before it’s retired. It definitely adds another level of excitement to the game!

This year, I decided to have a little fun, packing my awesome gift in the following box:

My husband got this Prank Pack last year, and I’ve been waiting for the perfect time to prank someone with them. Imagine tearing off the wrapping paper and finding yourself with a Wake & Bake Dream Griddle Alarm Clock!

The person who picked my gift was a little stunned when she saw it, but she eventually opened it up and found her real gift (a Knob Creek Gift Pack).

Everyone had a good laugh about it. 😀

On The Hunt For Frizzy Hair Relief

frizz monster

The best thing about summer is being able to break out the flip flops and soak up some Vitamin D from the sun! However, there’s one downside to the summer and the humidity that comes along with it, and that’s my thick curly frizzy hair.

I’m so thankful to have natural curls, but there’s also a price to pay for them. As such, I’ve been on a mission to find the right product that can get me through the summer months. And let me tell you, it has not been fun.

My first attempt was John Frieda’s Style Crème and Mousse. John Frieda is well known for their Frizz Ease line, and while it has lots of good reviews online, I didn’t like it. It did help a little with the frizz, but my hair felt very crunchy afterwards. On to the next one.

My next stop was Walmart, as one of my friends suggested I try the La Bella Styling Gel and Dove Hair Spray. Her hair looks great everyday, so I figured I’d give these products a shot. Well, even though she has curly hair, our hair makeup must be different, as by Noon, I was all frizz and fed up.

After that, I stopped in at Ulta and decided to give the high-end Deva Curl product a try. I bought their Styling Cream – It was a bit pricey, but I was hopeful that this would do the trick. Nope, it did not tame the frizz. On the plus side, my hair felt soft afterwards. Last night on my way home from work, I returned the Deva Curl and told the girl at the register that I could not get a break and pretty much had given up.

She suggested I try Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Curl Defining Styling Lotion and Curl Enhancing Styling Foam. I am so happy to have found these products, as they do everything that the bottles have promised and more!

So if you have unmanageable frizzy hair like me, give these Marc Anthony Strictly Curls products a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Free 8-Piece Clinique Bonus Gift At Nordstrom

Clinique Bonus At Nordstrom

Over the weekend, I stopped by Nordstrom while at the mall and I saw that Clinique was doing another bonus gift set promotion starting tomorrow (Tuesday November 5th), with the purchase of $30 or more.

Even though I just took advantage of the Clinique bonus gift at Macy’s last month, I just couldn’t resist going for this deal, as the Nordstrom bonus gift set comes with some of my favorite makeup!

It seems like Macy’s and Boscov’s always has the same free gifts, while the Nordstrom gift set comes with a few goodies that you don’t normally see, like Dual-Ended High Impact Mascara, Long Lasting Lip Gloss, Nail Polish, and of course the cute Tracy Reese cosmetic bag that has been designed especially for Clinique.

The free gift set (pictured above) is valued at $85 and includes the following items:

  • Tracy Reese for Clinique Cosmetics Bag
  • Moisture Surge CC Cream (1 oz.) in Your Choice of Very Light, Light Medium or Medium Deep
  • Eyeshadow/Blush Palette in Starlight, Starbright and Fig
  • Dual-Ended High Impact Mascara in Black (0.07 oz.) and Long Last Glosswear in Bonfire (0.17 oz.)
  • Long Last Lipstick in All Heart (0.14 oz.)
  • Repairwear Laser Focus Eye Cream (0.17 oz.)
  • Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator (0.5 oz.)
  • A Different Nail Enamel in Happy (0.17 oz.)

Visit Nordstrom.com or head over to your local Nordstrom to get in on this deal while you still can. Available while supplies last!

It sucks that these deals only come along a couple of times a year, as I absolutely LOVE her makeup bags. Guess I’ll have to wait until next May for their next Bonus deal.

Talk About An Amazing Proposal Video!

On April 13th, Justin Baldoni proposed to his girlfriend Emily at the restaurant where they had their first date. He told her he was running late, had the restaurant opened just for her, and set up hidden cameras all around her. When she sat down at the table, there was a TV in front of her set to take her on a journey that would lead to the proposal of a lifetime. This is what happened…

Yes, you’ve probably seen friends and connections sharing this video on Facebook and Twitter. But if you haven’t watched it yet, set aside 27 minutes to do so. Yes, that’s quite a commitment of time in today’s ADD ridden world, but this is truly an amazing marriage proposal video that will bring you to tears.

I Underwent Septoplasty Surgery Last Week

Yes, 2013 has not been kind to me. Now if you’re a long-time reader, then you know that I suffered some permanent vision loss due to a freak medical occurrence. It’s been a long road (with many expensive co-pays), but all of those issues are now behind me, and I’ve gotten back to “life as normal”.

About a month ago, I noticed that my one nostril seemed blocked, I couldn’t breathe out of it or anything. So I made an appointment with an ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) doctor, and he said that something was blocking one of my nasal passages. Maybe fluid build up, maybe a polyp or cyst, regardless they’d have to operate and see what they found.

He said I also had a really deviated septum, and that he’d fix that at the same time. Fun!

The surgery was last Thursday, and the procedure itself was quick (about an hour) and I was put out for the entire thing. But the recover was a BITCH! The pain was way worse than I had anticipated, and I now saw why they had prescribed me Oxycotin for the pain.

Turns out there was a big cyst growing in my nasal cavity, and that’s what caused all the problems. Thankfully they caught it in time, before it caused even more problems. Biopsy of it came back clear, so that was a big relief as well.

The worst part of the whole experience was when my husband removed my packing the day following the surgery. OMG! People say the pain is worse than childbirth.. Yeah, I was seeing stars when he pulled it out, it was unlike anything I’d experienced before.

Thankfully, that was the worst of it. The healing process takes awhile (1-2 months), but so far the doctor says things are healing nicely. Hopefully this will be the last of my medical issues, as I don’t know how much more of this I can take.
