Sometimes It’s Best To Stick With Your Current Makeup

bright-eyeshadow-for-brown-eyes

While passing thru Nordstroms the other day, I decided to try on some MAC Cosmetics eye shadow. For years I had been using Clinique eye shadow (Victorian Pink), but last year they discontinued my favorite color and I’ve been on the hunt for a replacement ever since.

I was really bummed out by this, but I knew I had to move on. The MAC makeup artist was very helpful and picked out 2 colors that she said would make my hazel eyes pop. They were All That Glitters and Creme de Violet. I told her that I wanted colors that I could wear during the day at work, but when she had finished applying the colors to me, I looked like I was ready to head out to a nightclub.

Unfortunately, I just wasn’t happy with MAC’s color options, they were all too bright for me. So I headed back to the Clinique counter a few days later and purchase Ballet Flats and Nude Rose, which are pretty similar to my beloved Victorian Pink. Honestly, I’m not sure why I strayed from Clinique in the first place.

Lesson learned, stick with what you know.

Kitchen Ingredients For Soothing Dry Skin

Oats

It’s truly magical the way we can find the solution to almost all of life’s beauty dilemmas in the shelves of our kitchen pantry! Nature has truly blessed us with an abundance of goodness so that we need look no further. With the summer sun happily pounding our heads, the times has come, ladies, to pull out our forgotten summer dresses, our broad brimmed hats, and our sunscreen. The only thing that could possibly set this summer on a dull streak is dry and parched skin, because as every girl knows a gorgeous body in a bikini is only the first step to feminine greatness—the next is great skin! So check out these cool kitchen ingredients that can be used as creatively cooling ways to keep your skin glowing and fresh all summer:

Bananas: Don’t be afraid to go for little bananas this summer! Bananas are probably the most soothing homemade mask for your skin, and the best part is that it requires only requires mashing and then applying. Just mash a ripe banana and spread the paste all over your face. Lie down for for fifteen minutes to let it soak in and refresh your skin, and then rinse it off with warm water. For an extra treatment against dry skin you can add 2 tablespoons of rich sour cream and 1 tablespoon of honey to the mixture.

Oats: Oats are the best thing on the block for a slim figure and a shining complexion! Oatmeal has beta-glucans which are perfect for soothing and smoothing your skin, giving it a tightening effect while treating dry skin. Steer clear of “instant” oats, because these won’t have the same effect on your skin as the real organic deal. Mix 1 tablespoon of oatmeal with 3 tablespoons of plain yoghurt and 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply it to your face and leave on for about 15 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. Feel the difference!

Honey: Honey tastes great and also has strong moisturising and healing properties for your skin. Honey is rich in vitamins and minerals and can be applied to your skin directly as a mask that can be left for 15 minutes and then washed off.

Olive Oil: Olive oil has always been an ancient remedy for soothing parched skin and making it clear and smooth. Olive oil works better than any other moisturising lotion and is perfect for moisturising the surface of your skin. While I will be the first to agree that olive oil is slightly expensive, I will say that if you can’t find it or afford it there are other essential oil products out like bio oil which are just as great. Bio oil 200ml bottles are topped with rich essential oils like Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Calendula Oil, Lavender Oil, Rosemary Oil and Chamomile Oil.

Upscale Makeup Service Without The Upscale Price

Shannon’s been my go-to girl for makeup for over a decade now. We first met back in 2001, when I was treating myself to a day of pampering at a local salon. Shannon did an amazing job with my makeup, and not only did she help pick out the best colors for my skin type, but she also gave me some useful tips on how to apply them.

Shannon attended the Rizzieri Institute, and she’s been a licensed esthetician and make-up artist for over 18 years. Shannon’s worked at two of South Jersey’s top salons, she’s appeared on FOX’s Good Day Philadelphia, Comcast TV, and various other news spots, and she’s even done work for a number of local celebrities!

Shannon recently started offering makeup services out of her home in Cinnaminson NJ. The great thing about this is that you get that one-on-one experience. She’s created a spa room that is so soothing, it’s a comfortable, relaxing environment for you to unwind.

Like she says, “Escape the hectic rush of your busy life and take time to relax.”

And that’s exactly what I decided to do this weekend. I went over to Shannon’s house on Saturday morning so she could do my makeup, and I think the following before and after photo pretty much speaks for itself:

Shannon also does off-site makeup for weddings and other special occasions. Of course, with wedding season already in full swing, she’s booking up a lot of wedding weekends. So if you’re interested in having her do the makeup for your wedding (she’ll even come to you), you’d better contact her right away before her schedule books up!

You can also purchase a custom blended foundation from her to take home with you! Or Shannon can help you choose other products that would be good for your skin from her skincare products and mineral makeup line. You can order these items from her website, which is super easy to use, and offers a cash-back feature that’s hard to beat.

So whether you’re looking for a makeover, a personalized makeup consultation, makeup lessons, or makeup services for your big day, Shannon’s got you covered.

You can contact Shannon at 609-221-0682, and tell her that Nicole sent you!

How To Beat Makeup-Related Skin Dryness Gently

Woman With Dry Skin

Most women apply makeup everyday, and they wouldn’t dare to step out of the house without doing so. However, makeup contains chemicals that make your skin dull and dry if not taken off every night and cleansed. You can’t sleep with your makeup on. If you do, the pores of your skin are bound to get clogged. Clogged pores inhibit air from entering into the skin. As a result, your skin stores a lot of toxins and becomes darkened and dull.

There are a myriad of ways to treat skin dryness. The best way is by using Aloe Vera. It’s the best skin nourisher. Our skin is naturally moist during the hot summer months due to humidity in the air. But during the winter months, you need something more than that. This goes for your face too, and even oily skin needs to be moisturized. You apply makeup during all seasons. So why not moisturize your skin at all times?

After you step out of the bathing room, make sure you apply lotion or cream over your face and neck so that it is best absorbed through a clean skin. Dry skin is more prone to flaking and giving rise to dead cells which clog the skin pores. This makes skin look patchy and drab. You must slather on a cream or a lotion several times a day to keep your hands soft and smooth.

Review: Mary Kay NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss (Inspiring)

While going through my makeup the other day, I came across one of my lipsticks that I hadn’t been wearing, because it was a little too dark for me. I needed to lighten up the color, and I had just the thing to do the trick!

I recently got Mary Kay’s NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss in the limited-edition Inspiring color. This color has a nice translucent pearl shimmer, which definitely toned down the color of my lipstick. The texture is nice and smooth, and I’m a big fan of this lip gloss because it’s nonsticky, unlike some of my other lip glosses.

Mary Kay NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss comes in 14 standard colors and costs just $14.00.

Review: Mary Kay Cream Eye Color

As part of my morning makeup ritual, I always apply a base before applying my eye shadow. Since a friend of mine sells for Mary Kay, I decided to try out their Mary Kay Cream Eye Color.

I’ve been using Clinique Touch Base in Canvas Color for years, and I was excited to try out a new product and see how it compared.

The color I chose was Beach Blonde. The product went on really smooth, and the color blended in great with my eye shadow! I was really happy with the product, and the fact that it stayed on all day was definitely a plus.

I’m totally hooked on this product, and I’ll definitely be getting more when I run out.

Mary Kay Cream Eye Color costs $13.00, which I think is pretty reasonable, considering that I was paying $15.00 for Clinique’s Touch Base.

While it might seem a little pricey to some, I truly believe that it’s worth it, that extra step really brings out my eye color and looks great.
