Here’s The Trailer For ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’

When I woke up this morning, the new Fifty Shades of Grey trailer was being posted all over Facebook. So after the third or fourth posting, I decided to watch it for myself and see what all the hype was about.

Now as someone who’s read the book, I’m not sure how this will translate into a 2-hour movie, but the trailer definitely looks authentic to the book. I also had mixed feelings about the casting of Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson for Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, but they seems to work from what I can see here.

The movie is set to be released on February 14th 2015, and I predict it’ll break all kinds of box office records, given that it was one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever.

What do you think of the trailer?

Why Did ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Bomb At The Box Office?

Edge of Tomorrow

Last week, I attended an advanced screening for Tom Cruise’s new action sci-fi movie Edge of Tomorrow and I really enjoyed it. So imagine my surprise when I found out the movie fizzled at the box office over the weekend, coming in a distant third.

The movie, which stars Cruise and Emily Blunt, is about Earth’s fight against aliens that are trying taking over the planet, and Cruise’s ability to replay the same day over and over again, much like in Groundhog Day. The difference? He learns from each previous instance, going from a rookie soldier to an unstoppable force. There’s also similarities to Source Code with Jake Gyllenhaal, another favorite of mine.

As a huge Tom Cruise fan, I was definitely excited to see Edge of Tomorrow, and it didn’t disappoint one bit. I thought Cruise and Blunt had great on-screen chemistry, and the movie really kept my attention (which is saying something since I sometimes have ADD and have trouble sitting still while watching movies).

So I say ignore everyone else’s opinions and go see the movie. But save your money and skip the 3D, as the special effects aren’t worth the extra money!

I Attended An Early Screening Of ‘Transcendence’

If you’ve turned on the TV in the past few weeks, you’ve probably seen the commercial for the new Johnny Depp movie Transcendence. I was fortunate enough to attend an early screening off the movie on Monday night, and I wanted to give me quick thoughts on the movie for anyone thinking about seeing it this weekend.

The movie’s storyline is a little “out there”, but here’s the premise: Artificial intelligence researcher Dr. Will Caster (Depp) is dying, so he uploads his brain to a computer so that he can go on “living”. Inside of the computer, he’s able to transcend the abilities of the human brain, and we get to see how this plays out.

I can’t really say much more about the movie without giving away critical plot lines, but I will say that it was an enjoyable two hours, though it does get a little confusing at time. It’s one of those movies that you’ll leave the theater still thinking about, and that’s a good thing in my opinion.

There’s also LOTS of eye candy for the ladies in the cast, and I’m not just talking about Johnny Depp. Paul Bettany, Cillian Murphy, Cole Hauser, and Lukas Haas, among others.

It’s well worth the $12 price of admission, so if you’re looking for a movie to see this weekend, check out Transcendence. You won’t be disappointed!

‘Runner, Runner’ Stars Ben Affleck & Justin Timberlake

Runner Runner

Last week, we went to see The Internship (great movie), and they showed the trailer for a new movie starring Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake called Runner, Runner.

Here’s the storyline for the movie:

Princeton grad student Richie (Timberlake), believing he’s been swindled, travels to Costa Rica to confront online gambling tycoon Ivan Block (Affleck). Richie is seduced by Block’s promise of immense wealth, until he learns the disturbing truth about his benefactor. When the FBI tries to coerce Richie to help bring down Block, Richie faces his biggest gamble ever: attempting to outmaneuver the two forces closing in on him.

And here’s the trailer:

Looks pretty great, right? Unfortunately, we’ve got awhile to wait, as the movie doesn’t come out until September 27th.

‘The Way Way Back’ Was Such A Good Movie!

The Way Way Back

Last night, we attended an advanced screening of the new Steve Carell movie, The Way Way Back, and it was so much better than I ever expected!

The movie doesn’t hit theaters until July 5th, but for some reason they’re doing a bunch of screenings around the country right now. (Click here to see if there’s a screening in your area)

Here’s the synopsis for the movie:

THE WAY, WAY BACK is the funny and poignant coming of age story of 14-year-old Duncan’s (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter, Steph (Zoe Levin). Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Sam Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up to and begins to finally find his place in the world – all during a summer he will never forget.

And here’s the trailer for the movie:

It’s strange watching Michael from The Office playing the bad guy role, but he nails it perfectly. Within the first few moments of the movie, I could already sympathize with Duncan’s situation, as Trent is a real dick to him.

Still, he finds a way to make the best of a bad situation, and it’s heart-warming to watch his transformation. There are some interesting plot twists along the way, you’ll just have to watch the movie to see how it all plays out.

I’m curious to see what kind of release this movie gets come July. Most indie movies like this only see a limited release in smaller theaters, but I think this could do really well with the right promotion and with the big names attached to the movie.

Whatever the case, make sure you check this movie out when it’s finally released, you won’t be disappointed!

Review: Fast & Furious 6

Fast and Furious 6

Last night I attended an advanced screening of Fast & Furious 6. A movie with hotties Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Sung Kang? Ok, you twisted my arm, I’ll go!

While Fast Five was more about action and less about the cars, this latest movie did a good job of balancing the two, and the whole audience was loving every second of it.

If you haven’t seen the previous movies, not to worry, as the opening credits include a montage that brings you up to speed in a hurry. It was a nice trip down memory lane, considering the first F&F movie came out nearly 12 years ago!

The movie itself is pretty awesome, with something for everyone – Action, car chases, comedy, romance, suspense, and some twists you’ll never see coming.

I really enjoyed the movie, and I think it’s going to give The Hangover 3 a run for it’s money at the box office next weekend.

If you go, be sure you stay through the credits, as there’s an extra scene afterwards that’s worth waiting for!

Review: Safe Haven

Last night, we were invited to an advanced screening of Safe Haven. The movie, which stars Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough, comes out on Valentine’s Day. How fitting.. 🙂

The movie is based on the novel from Nicholas Sparks, the best-selling author behind the hit films The Notebook and Dear John. Need I say more?

Here’s the synopsis for Safe Haven:

An affirming and suspenseful story about a young woman’s struggle to love again. When a mysterious young woman arrives in a small North Carolina town, her reluctance to join the tight knit community raises questions about her past. Slowly, she begins putting down roots, and gains the courage to start a relationship with Alex, a widowed store owner with two young children. But dark secrets intrude on her new life with such terror that she is forced to rediscover the meaning of sacrifice and rely on the power of love in this deeply moving romantic thriller.

I’ve been wanting to see this movie ever since I saw the first trailer for it, and I was not disappointed. If you love a good chick-flick that’ll have you leaving the theater in tears, then Safe Haven is just what you’re looking for! Props to my husband for going with me, even though it wasn’t his type of movie..

I thought Julianne Hough did a great job in her role as Katie. I’ve been a big fan of hers since seeing her in Rock of Ages, and I’ve even thought about dying my hair all blonde because of her.

As for Josh Duhamel, what can I say? I’ve loved him since Las Vegas, he’s a great actor and a nice piece of eye-candy to boot! Some people complain that he doesn’t have much acting range, but I felt he totally nailed his role in this movie.

The storyline felt a bit Lifetime-y, but as someone who could sit and watch LMN all day long, that was fine by me. I’d love to say more, but I don’t want to ruin the movie for anyone.

Just go and see it, you won’t be disappointed. And bring some tissues with you, they’ll come in handy!

‘Cosmopolis’ Might Just Be The Worst Movie Of 2012

Yesterday, I rented Cosmopolis. I didn’t know much about the movie beforehand, but I’m a Twilight geek who’s in love with Robert Pattinson, so I had to see the movie.

What a mistake that was!

Seriously, this is the most boring and bizarre movie ever, so bad in fact that I fell asleep about an hour in.. Cosmopolis is an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s story about a 28 year-old billionaire who crosses Manhattan for a haircut. Riveting story, don’t you think?

I eventually woke up and watched the rest of the movie. Unfortunately, it didn’t get any better. Had I checked my usual review sites (IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, etc), I would have steered clear of this trainwreck.

If you’re looking for something else to rent instead, consider Looper, Total Recall, or The Dark Knight Rises. All three are solid flicks that I really enjoyed!
