I Wouldn’t Have Thought Of That!

The other day, I received an e-mail that was being passed around the office containing a number of useful tips that I’d never heard of before. I thought they were pretty nifty, so I thought I’d share them with you all!

tips-toaster

You can flip a toaster on its side and grill cheese in it. **

tips-ground-meat

You can divide and store ground meat in a Ziplock bag. Just break off how much you need, and keep the rest in the freezer for later!

tips-boiling-water

If you place a wooden spoon over a pot of boiling water, it won’t boil over.

tips-marshmallows

Marshmallows can cure a sore throat. Perfect for kids who don’t like medicine!

tips-paper-bags

You can run a paper bag through your printer!

tips-bananas

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster..

tips-cheese

Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminium foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not get moldy!

tips-peppers

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are stronger flavored.

tips-water

Add a teaspoon of water when frying minced beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

tips-dustpan

Use a (clean) dustpan to fill a container that doesn’t fit in the sink.

tips-paint-can

Place a rubber band around an open paint can to wipe your brush on, and keep paint off the side of the can .

tips-keyring

Use a staple remover to save your fingernails when trying to add things to your key ring!

tips-sodacan

Here’s how you keep the straw from rising out of your soda can.

tips-frost

Use a micro-fiber cloth to prevent frost from forming on the windshield.

tips-comb-nail

Use a comb to keep a nail steady for hammering.

tips-postitnote

Use a Post-It note to catch drilling debris.

** Personally, the toaster idea doesn’t sound too safe to me unless you have an old-fashioned toaster.

Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas Ship To Offer Skydiving, Bumper Cars, and Trapeze Lessons

Quantum-of-the-Seas1

When Royal Caribbean unveiled their upcoming Quantum of the Seas ship earlier this week, they had people saying Wow!

Personally, I didn’t think they’d be able to outdo the Oasis and Alure of the Seas, but this new (slightly smaller) ship delivers in spades, with all the bells and whistles that cruisers have become accustomed to in recent years.

Quantum-of-the-Seas2

The 167,800-ton, 4,180-passenger ship, set to launch from Cape Liberty in Bayonne NJ in Fall 2014, will include features such as indoor skydiving, bumper cars, trapeze lessons, studios with balconies, and inside cabins with “virtual balconies.”

Kitchen Ingredients For Soothing Dry Skin

Oats

It’s truly magical the way we can find the solution to almost all of life’s beauty dilemmas in the shelves of our kitchen pantry! Nature has truly blessed us with an abundance of goodness so that we need look no further. With the summer sun happily pounding our heads, the times has come, ladies, to pull out our forgotten summer dresses, our broad brimmed hats, and our sunscreen. The only thing that could possibly set this summer on a dull streak is dry and parched skin, because as every girl knows a gorgeous body in a bikini is only the first step to feminine greatness—the next is great skin! So check out these cool kitchen ingredients that can be used as creatively cooling ways to keep your skin glowing and fresh all summer:

Bananas: Don’t be afraid to go for little bananas this summer! Bananas are probably the most soothing homemade mask for your skin, and the best part is that it requires only requires mashing and then applying. Just mash a ripe banana and spread the paste all over your face. Lie down for for fifteen minutes to let it soak in and refresh your skin, and then rinse it off with warm water. For an extra treatment against dry skin you can add 2 tablespoons of rich sour cream and 1 tablespoon of honey to the mixture.

Oats: Oats are the best thing on the block for a slim figure and a shining complexion! Oatmeal has beta-glucans which are perfect for soothing and smoothing your skin, giving it a tightening effect while treating dry skin. Steer clear of “instant” oats, because these won’t have the same effect on your skin as the real organic deal. Mix 1 tablespoon of oatmeal with 3 tablespoons of plain yoghurt and 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply it to your face and leave on for about 15 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. Feel the difference!

Honey: Honey tastes great and also has strong moisturising and healing properties for your skin. Honey is rich in vitamins and minerals and can be applied to your skin directly as a mask that can be left for 15 minutes and then washed off.

Olive Oil: Olive oil has always been an ancient remedy for soothing parched skin and making it clear and smooth. Olive oil works better than any other moisturising lotion and is perfect for moisturising the surface of your skin. While I will be the first to agree that olive oil is slightly expensive, I will say that if you can’t find it or afford it there are other essential oil products out like bio oil which are just as great. Bio oil 200ml bottles are topped with rich essential oils like Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Calendula Oil, Lavender Oil, Rosemary Oil and Chamomile Oil.

Upscale Makeup Service Without The Upscale Price

Shannon’s been my go-to girl for makeup for over a decade now. We first met back in 2001, when I was treating myself to a day of pampering at a local salon. Shannon did an amazing job with my makeup, and not only did she help pick out the best colors for my skin type, but she also gave me some useful tips on how to apply them.

Shannon attended the Rizzieri Institute, and she’s been a licensed esthetician and make-up artist for over 18 years. Shannon’s worked at two of South Jersey’s top salons, she’s appeared on FOX’s Good Day Philadelphia, Comcast TV, and various other news spots, and she’s even done work for a number of local celebrities!

Shannon recently started offering makeup services out of her home in Cinnaminson NJ. The great thing about this is that you get that one-on-one experience. She’s created a spa room that is so soothing, it’s a comfortable, relaxing environment for you to unwind.

Like she says, “Escape the hectic rush of your busy life and take time to relax.”

And that’s exactly what I decided to do this weekend. I went over to Shannon’s house on Saturday morning so she could do my makeup, and I think the following before and after photo pretty much speaks for itself:

Nicole-Before-After-Makeup

Shannon also does off-site makeup for weddings and other special occasions. Of course, with wedding season already in full swing, she’s booking up a lot of wedding weekends. So if you’re interested in having her do the makeup for your wedding (she’ll even come to you), you’d better contact her right away before her schedule books up!

You can also purchase a custom blended foundation from her to take home with you! Or Shannon can help you choose other products that would be good for your skin from her skincare products and mineral makeup line. You can order these items from her website, which is super easy to use, and offers a cash-back feature that’s hard to beat.

So whether you’re looking for a makeover, a personalized makeup consultation, makeup lessons, or makeup services for your big day, Shannon’s got you covered.

You can contact Shannon at 609-221-0682, and tell her that Nicole sent you!

Famous Dave’s Adds Baby Back Ribs To Their Menu!

Famous Dave's Baby Back Ribs

Since we’re members of Famous Dave’s P.I.G. Club, we received an e-mail on Monday letting us know about their newest menu item, baby back ribs. Woo-hoo!

I LOVE me some baby back ribs, so you can guess where we ended up eating on Monday night.. With a special introductory price, it wasn’t hard to convince the hubby to let us cheat this one day and eat some fattening BBQ.

We decided to share the full rack of ribs (which came with two sides), which turned out to be a good idea. As you can see from the photo above, the rack is HUGE, and it’s just as good as it looks!

I was concerned that the ribs might be too spicy, as everything here tends to be pretty hot. But the flavor of the ribs is outstanding. They use a decent amount of pepper to provide some kick to their delicious BBQ sauce, but it’s not overpowering. The ribs were nice and tender, and while not exactly “fall off the bone”, they were still easy to eat if you didn’t mind getting your hands dirty.

The sides are always a bit of a disappointment here, and this was no exception. The manager said that they might offer the ribs as a stand-alone item with no sides, and if so that’s what I’d go with.

We paid $16.99 for the full-rack as part of that introductory price, but I’m pretty sure the regular price will be around $24.99 or so. It may sound like a lot of money, but when you consider how much food you get (enough to share), it’s not a bad deal at all.

I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. 🙂

A Review Of McDonald’s Premium McWrap

McDonald's McWrap

I’ve been on the hunt for a good chicken wrap, since Wendy’s got rid of their Homestyle Chicken Go Wrap. I decided to try out the new McDonald’s Premium McWrap, since they’ve been advertising the heck out of it.

McDonalds has 3 different wraps to choose from (Chicken & Bacon, Sweet Chili Chicken, and Chicken & Ranch), with your choice of grilled or crispy chicken. I decided to try out the Crispy Chicken & Bacon Wrap.

It was really tasty and filling! But I couldn’t believe how big it was compared to Wendy’s GoWrap, you better come with a big appetite! The tortilla was warm and soft, and it was filled with crispy chicken breast filet, hickory-smoked bacon, two half slices of tomato, spring greens, shredded lettuce and cheddar jack cheese, all drizzled with a creamy garlic sauce.

I loved the combination of ingredients, but next time I’m going to ask them if I can sub the ranch dressing instead. Yeah, I could just order the Chicken & Ranch, but I’d much rather have bacon than cucumber slices.

There are a variety of coupons floating around to get people in to try the new McWrap, and I’d suggest you look for one before going. I forgot mine at home, and I was shocked when I saw the menu – $3.99 for the McWrap alone?! That’s quite a bit more than the $1.69 Wendy’s charges for their wraps.. Sure, McD’s wraps are much bigger, but are they worth more than twice the price?

You’ll have to try it for yourself and decide.

There are some of the other healthy foods like salmon, eggs, brown rice and coconut oil to support healthy and long hair.

Comb your hair gently: Don’t go rude while brushing or combing your hair. I advise you to brush your hair very slowly and softly and don’t comb your hair very frequently.
