Why It’s Worthy Paying For A Bulkhead Seat

I’m visiting my Mom in Arizona right now, and when I flew out I chose a bulkhead seat.

Bulkhead seats are seats located directly behind the bulkhead separators. In addition to separating classes from one another (i.e. business and economy), bulkheads can be found throughout larger planes, separating the seats from the galley and lavatory areas.

Now, if you’ve met me, you’re probably scratching your head wondering why I’d spend good money on a “choice seat”, given that I’m all of 5ft. But there are more advantages than just legroom:

  • With no seat in front of you, no one can recline their seats into your lap.
  • It’s easy to get in and out of your seats without having to disturb your neighbors.
  • You get served food and drinks first – No more having to worry about the airline running out of turkey sandwiches by the time they get to Row 22.
  • You get priority boarding, so you don’t have to stress about them running out of overhead space for your carry-on luggage!
  • You get off the plane first since you’re up front near the exit.

The downsides are pretty minimal. With no seat in front of you, there’s no under-seat stowage for a carry-on bag, so everything has to be placed in the overhead compartment for takeoff and landing. And if your bulkhead seat is near a lavatory, you’re going to be constantly disturbed. This is why I only go for the bulkhead seats behind first-class.

On this trip, the upgraded seat cost me $49 each way. That might seem like a lot to some, but I felt it’s was well worth it for all the extra perks that come with it.

Something to think about the next time you’re booking a flight!

Mini Chocolate Pumpkin Cakes

I’m flying out to Arizona next week to spend Thanksgiving with my Mom, and I wanted to make a special treat for dessert. Sure, we’ll have pies galore, but I wanted to make some kind of festive chocolate cake. And then I came across this recipe from Six Sisters Stuff for Fall Chocolate Pumpkin Cakes, and I was sold!

Chocolate Cake:
1 pkg. chocolate cake mix
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 (2 cups) bag milk chocolate chips
1 small box instant chocolate pudding
2 eggs
1 1/4 cup water

  • Spray 2, six cupcake mini-fluted bundt pans generously (or use a regular cupcake tin).
  • Mix chocolate cake ingredients together, stirring chocolate chips in last.
  • Spoon batter into prepared pan, filling each cake halfway.
  • Bake at 350°F for 17 minutes and let cool for about 5 minutes in the pan.
  • If you use a cupcake tin, reduce cooking time to 14 minutes.
  • Invert onto a cooling rack or wax paper and let cool completely.

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 tablespoons milk
2-3 cups powdered sugar
Orange food coloring

Mix together above ingredients until smooth. If frosting is too thick, add a little more milk. If it’s not thick enough, add more powdered sugar.

After they have cooled, slice off the domed end so it is flat. Frost one mini cake on the flat side and put another mini cake on top. Frost the entire pumpkin cake or just the top and let the frosting drip down. Decorate with fun sprinkles and sugars. Makes about 16 small bundt cakes which equals 8 pumpkins (Each pumpkin takes 2 mini cakes).

For the stem you can use tootsie rolls, airheads, small candy bars, or big pretzel sticks. The cake should be moist and delicious!

Your guests will absolutely love this festive treat!

Had Some PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur Last Night

If you like pomegranates, you’re going to love PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur!

Made from all-natural pomegranate juice, vodka, and a touch of tequila, the result is a delicately balanced sweet-tart flavor that can be enjoyed straight up, or mixed in a cocktail.

I’m not a big drinker, but I absolutely LOVE this stuff, and I can’t wait to try out some of the other cocktail recipes from PAMA’s website.

Next time you’re at the liquor store, be sure to pick up a bottle..

Honda Launches Pink Car Designed For Women

Over in Japan, Honda’s rolling out a version of their Fit compact car specially designed for women! It’s called the Honda Fit She’s (talk about a strange name), and the first thing you’ll notice is how pink it is! The car has pink stitching in the seats, steering wheel and floor mats, as well as a heart that replaces the apostrophe in the She’s brand logo.

But wait, there’s more! The car’s windshield helps prevent wrinkles (by reducing UV rays by 99%), and their “plasmacluster” A/C system claims to improve your skin quality and prevents wrinkles. Sexist or not, that sounds like good feature..

This isn’t the first time automakers have tried to lure women with ladies-only models. In 2000, Ford showed off a concept Windstar minivan developed with Maytag that featuring a compact washer/dryer, microwave, and vacuum cleaner in the rear hatch.

I wish I could have seen the reactions from the ladies in those focus groups! 😀
