Review: Fast & Furious 6

Fast and Furious 6

Last night I attended an advanced screening of Fast & Furious 6. A movie with hotties Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Sung Kang? Ok, you twisted my arm, I’ll go!

While Fast Five was more about action and less about the cars, this latest movie did a good job of balancing the two, and the whole audience was loving every second of it.

If you haven’t seen the previous movies, not to worry, as the opening credits include a montage that brings you up to speed in a hurry. It was a nice trip down memory lane, considering the first F&F movie came out nearly 12 years ago!

The movie itself is pretty awesome, with something for everyone – Action, car chases, comedy, romance, suspense, and some twists you’ll never see coming.

I really enjoyed the movie, and I think it’s going to give The Hangover 3 a run for it’s money at the box office next weekend.

If you go, be sure you stay through the credits, as there’s an extra scene afterwards that’s worth waiting for!

Invisalign Straight Talk – Braces Then, Invisalign Now

Invisalign Logo

A few weeks ago, I attended a Mini Bloggy Boot Camp event in Philadelphia sponsored by Invisalign. In addition to learning about ways to better our blogging skills, we learned all about Invisalign from an experienced orthodontist, as well as from actual Invisalign Teen patients. The presentation was impressive, to say the least!

Today’s braces are more sophisticated than ever. Gone are the days of “wrap around” metal brackets, bonded brackets, and big clunky head and neck gears. As technology enhances our daily lives, it also continues to advance the science of orthodontics.

Invisalign

Among the new advances in orthodontia, removable aligners like Invisalign & Invisalign Teen are fast becoming a popular choice. The system uses a series of clear aligners made of lightweight plastic that sit smoothly on the teeth allowing for a more comfortable fit and they work as effectively as traditional metal braces.

I wore braces growing up (for 5 years), and it wasn’t fun at all. I had to give up some of my favorite foods (popcorn, corn on the cob, gum, etc). The jagged metal edges of the braces would dig into my cheeks. And brushing my teeth wasn’t easy with braces, which led to lots of cavities and stuff when I got them off.

Invisalign works much the same as braces, but with some notable benefits. You can eat whatever you want. You can brush and floss your teeth normally. The smooth plastic aligners don’t irritate your cheeks and gums. And of course, the aesthetic benefits!

You can barely see Invisalign!

Invisalign is virtually invisible to others!

Every patient’s needs are different, and there are many factors that determine the cost of Invisalign treatment. But in most cases, you’ll find that the cost of braces is comparable to the cost of Invisalign. Given the many benefits of Invisalign, as well as the fact that the system is covered by most dental insurance plans and has affordable financing options available, why would you settle for anything else?

Dealing With This Blinding Pain In My Head

headache

For the past week or so, I’ve had this crazy on-and-off pain in my head, it felt like it was behind my eyeball.. All I wanted to do was curl up and die, as it was driving me crazy!

At first, I thought it was all in my head (no pun intended), and that thinking about it was bringing it on. So I tried to put it out of my mind and focus on other things. Then a co-worker told me it might be a sinus infection, so I made an appointment with my doctor.

Doc didn’t think it was sinus related, but he noticed something jutting out of my neck, almost like a slipped disc or something. He asked if I wanted him to put it back in place, and I told him to go for it since I was desperate for relief.

CRACK

The sound of my neck cracking is one I won’t soon forget! But so far so good, it’s been two days now and I’m feeling MUCH better. Fingers crossed!

‘The Way Way Back’ Was Such A Good Movie!

The Way Way Back

Last night, we attended an advanced screening of the new Steve Carell movie, The Way Way Back, and it was so much better than I ever expected!

The movie doesn’t hit theaters until July 5th, but for some reason they’re doing a bunch of screenings around the country right now. (Click here to see if there’s a screening in your area)

Here’s the synopsis for the movie:

THE WAY, WAY BACK is the funny and poignant coming of age story of 14-year-old Duncan’s (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter, Steph (Zoe Levin). Having a rough time fitting in, the introverted Duncan finds an unexpected friend in gregarious Owen (Sam Rockwell), manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his funny, clandestine friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up to and begins to finally find his place in the world – all during a summer he will never forget.

And here’s the trailer for the movie:

It’s strange watching Michael from The Office playing the bad guy role, but he nails it perfectly. Within the first few moments of the movie, I could already sympathize with Duncan’s situation, as Trent is a real dick to him.

Still, he finds a way to make the best of a bad situation, and it’s heart-warming to watch his transformation. There are some interesting plot twists along the way, you’ll just have to watch the movie to see how it all plays out.

I’m curious to see what kind of release this movie gets come July. Most indie movies like this only see a limited release in smaller theaters, but I think this could do really well with the right promotion and with the big names attached to the movie.

Whatever the case, make sure you check this movie out when it’s finally released, you won’t be disappointed!

Lil Bub Is The Cutest Cat You’ll Ever See!

Lil Bub

Have you met Lil Bub? This little cutie has taken the Internet by storm, and her fame has led to a book deal, a movie (which won Best Feature Film at Tribeca), and devout followers on her Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram accounts!

BUB has many unique characteristics that make her a very special one of a kind critter. BUB was the runt of an otherwise healthy litter from a stray outdoor mother, and was born with several genetic mutations that make her special. She is just one of nature’s happy accidents. Her foster family had a hard time finding her a home, but she now lives happily with a dude that feeds her only the best food and treats her like a queen.

BUB is a “perma-kitten”, which means she will stay kitten sized and maintain kitten-like features her entire life. She is also a dwarf, which means her limbs are disproportionately small relative to the rest of her body. She has very short, stubby legs and a weird, long, serpent-like body. Her lower jaw is very short compared to her upper jaw, and her teeth never grew in (yes, that’s right, she’s toothless!), which is why her tongue is usually hanging out. Don’t worry, BUB has a very healthy appetite and eats dry and wet food with no problems.

Additionally, BUB is a polydactyl cat, meaning she has extra toes, and in her case, one extra toe on all of her four paws. Her front paws each have two opposable thumbs. And then of course there are her big, bulging, wonder-filled green eyes. Some think she can see into the future with those things.

BUB squonks, squeaks, gurgles, snorts, hiccups, purrs and sometimes even growls. She also occasionally meows, but even those sound kinda funny.

Despite her weird looks and numerous “deformities”, BUB is a healthy, happy cat. She may not be able to jump on and off stuff, but she manages by climbing using her 22 claws. She also can’t quite run or walk very well… but she is a fantastic waddler. Even though she has no teeth, she has a fierce appetite, and can take down half of a bowl of dry food without any problems (the other half winds up scattered on the floor). Just like other cats, she poops and pees in the litter box, likes to chase bugs and is always cleaning her luxurious coat and sometimes even her dude’s beard.

Visit Lil Bub’s YouTube page, and you’ll be hooked in no time! :)

I Wouldn’t Have Thought Of That!

The other day, I received an e-mail that was being passed around the office containing a number of useful tips that I’d never heard of before. I thought they were pretty nifty, so I thought I’d share them with you all!

tips-toaster

You can flip a toaster on its side and grill cheese in it. **

tips-ground-meat

You can divide and store ground meat in a Ziplock bag. Just break off how much you need, and keep the rest in the freezer for later!

tips-boiling-water

If you place a wooden spoon over a pot of boiling water, it won’t boil over.

tips-marshmallows

Marshmallows can cure a sore throat. Perfect for kids who don’t like medicine!

tips-paper-bags

You can run a paper bag through your printer!

tips-bananas

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster..

tips-cheese

Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminium foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not get moldy!

tips-peppers

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are stronger flavored.

tips-water

Add a teaspoon of water when frying minced beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

tips-dustpan

Use a (clean) dustpan to fill a container that doesn’t fit in the sink.

tips-paint-can

Place a rubber band around an open paint can to wipe your brush on, and keep paint off the side of the can .

tips-keyring

Use a staple remover to save your fingernails when trying to add things to your key ring!

tips-sodacan

Here’s how you keep the straw from rising out of your soda can.

tips-frost

Use a micro-fiber cloth to prevent frost from forming on the windshield.

tips-comb-nail

Use a comb to keep a nail steady for hammering.

tips-postitnote

Use a Post-It note to catch drilling debris.

** Personally, the toaster idea doesn’t sound too safe to me unless you have an old-fashioned toaster.

Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas Ship To Offer Skydiving, Bumper Cars, and Trapeze Lessons

Quantum-of-the-Seas1

When Royal Caribbean unveiled their upcoming Quantum of the Seas ship earlier this week, they had people saying Wow!

Personally, I didn’t think they’d be able to outdo the Oasis and Alure of the Seas, but this new (slightly smaller) ship delivers in spades, with all the bells and whistles that cruisers have become accustomed to in recent years.

Quantum-of-the-Seas2

The 167,800-ton, 4,180-passenger ship, set to launch from Cape Liberty in Bayonne NJ in Fall 2014, will include features such as indoor skydiving, bumper cars, trapeze lessons, studios with balconies, and inside cabins with “virtual balconies.”
